Wednesday’s Middletown region sports roundup

Baseball

Cromwell 9, Coginchaug 1 >> At Durham, winning pitcher Dan Ambler struck out six over five innings and Peter Dewey and Noah Budzik had three hits apiece to lead the Panthers on Wednesday.

Zach Lombardo had two hits and three RBIs for Cromwell (6-2).

Nate McDonald had two hits for the host Blue Devils (4-3).

East Hampton 17, Westbrook 2 >> Zach Player tossed five no-hit innings and went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs to pace the host Bellringers.

CJ Ryan laced two doubles and had four RBIs, while Owen Wosleger had a pair of hits for East Hampton (5-3).

Jake Marciniec had a hit and an RBI for the Knights (2-4).

Softball

Mercy 6, Sacred Heart Academy 3 >> At Hamden, Tiffany Mangiameli and Michelle Theilgard had three hits apiece to lift the visiting Tigers.

Blake Braman and Danielle Lajoie each had two RBIs, while pitchers Bri Sawicki and Sarah Flanagan combined to allow seven hits for Mercy (5-2).

Brittney Lachance had two hits for the Pacers (3-5).

Coginchaug 9, Westbrook 1 >> Gabby Diaz struck out 11 and scattered six hits and Destiny Helmedach had a triple and three RBIs to lead the visiting Blue Devils.

Natalie Labasi went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs for Coginchaug (4-2).

Alexa Mulvihill had three hits, including a triple, for the Knights (5-3).

Haddam-Killingworth 13, Hale-Ray 9 >> At Moodus, Meghan Cerino and Ana Hale each hit home runs to power the Cougars. Rachel Senechal had two hits, Amanda Minervino had a triple, and Hannah Theriault earned the pitching win for H-K (4-2).

Skyler Rapuano went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and Cailey Botteon had two hits and three RBIs to lead the Noises (5-2).

Boys Tennis

Xavier 5, Jonathan Law 2 >> At Watrous Park, Cromwell, Ian Thompson and DJ Ciampi earned straight set singles wins, while Kyle Ericson and Alex Bonaiuto captured No. 1 doubles for the host Falcons (4-3).

Frisbee

Xavier 14, Choate 9 >> At Larry McHugh Field, Gunnar Jackson had six points and Zach Braun added four points to lead the host Falcons on Wednesday.

Brendan Rizza and Braun (four blocks) each had four assists for Xavier (7-1). Choate fell to 2-4.

Boys Golf

Xavier 157, Hand 177 >> At Portland Golf Course, medalist Chris Fosdick shot a 35 to lead the host Falcons. Also scoring
for Xavier (3-1) were Mitch Nappi, 39; Jack Oman, 41; and Jon Colavito, 42.

Jake Bennett shot a 41 for the Tigers (1-4).
