WEST HAVEN — Since the Seymour softball team burst onto to scene in the early 1990s, it’s been almost a foregone conclusion the Wildcats will be playing on the final weekend of the high school season.
Only twice in the last 30 years did the Wildcats fail to make it to the championship game in back-to-back seasons. With some clutch pitching by senior Molly Adamo and a three-run third inning the Wildcats will once again be going after a state title after dispatching Notre Dame of Fairfield 5-0 on Tuesday night at Biondi Field in the Class M semifinals.
No. 8 Seymour will face No. 3 Waterford in the state championship on Friday or Saturday.

The fourth-seeded Lancers came into the game with 45 homers and one of the state’s most productive lineups, but couldn’t manage to get to the crafty Adamo, going 1 for 11 with runners on base in the first five innings.

Adamo got Meredith McDonald, one of three .500 hitters in the Lancers’ lineup, to foul out to strand two runners in the third and keep Notre Dame from answering back Seymour’s rally in the top of the inning.
“She is really good at keeping her head and staying focused on the batter,” Seymour junior catcher Kolby Sirowich said. “Molly pitched a great game and that was really important because I honestly thought she (McDonald) was going to get them home, but Molly stayed focused and got the batter.”
No. 4 Notre Dame (22-5) also left the bases loaded in the sixth inning and stranded nine runners in the game.
“They hit the ball when they needed to, she did pitch well, she moved the ball around, hit some spots and definitely jammed some kids and got some soft contact from us,” Notre Dame coach Jeff Bevino said.

Alyssa Johnson started a three-run rally with a walk to cap a nine-pitch at bat. Lauren Haversat drove her in with the single to right field and Kolby Sirowich followed with an RBI single. A third run scored when obstruction was called after a collision just short of home plate. Bevino argued that the throw took McDonald, the Lancers’ catcher, into the base path but the call stood.
Jacey Cosciello led off the fourth with a single and came around to score on a one-out ground out. It became a 5-0 lead when Morgan Teodosio led off with a double and scored on a two-out error in the fifth inning for Seymour (23-5).

Johnson reached base three times, Cosciello had a pair of hits and each of the top seven batters in the Seymour lineup got on base at least one to set up a championship showdown with Waterford.
“We have a lot of heart on this team,” Sirowich said. “We all play travel, we all know what it feels like to lose, we hate that feeling we want it so bad.”
Notre Dame had runners on in every inning except the fourth and had a chance to make things interesting by loading the bases in the bottom of the sixth, but Adamo got out of the jam by getting Izzy Brousseau to float the ball to third baseman Victoria Sampiere.
WATERFORD 11, GRANBY 2
Winning pitcher Rachel Miller had four hits and scored twice as No. 3 seed advanced to the championship game.
Lili Stoddard drove in four runs for Waterford while Madison Kidd, Alexis Nichols and Mackenzie Dodd had doubles and Hannah Cronin had a pair of hits for No. 18 Granby.
