RAIN, RAIN and more RAIN… Due to the near daily intrusion of the wet stuff, the 2019 softball season has been slow to get going, with a horde of Top 10 matchups getting pushed deeper and deeper into the spring season.
What’s a softball team to do? Cheshire’s championship coach Kristine Drust, whose team has seen more than its share of postponements this season, joins the INSIDE THE CIRCLE softball pod this week to provide some insight.

Drust, whose team has seen their scheduled showdowns with the likes of St. Joseph and North Haven postponed, has taken her Rams out for ice cream, she’s taken them bowling… anything to help keep the team’s spirits up and the girls focused as they wait for nice, pleasant weather to return.
Of course, Drust gives us the deets about this year’s team, which is led by a handful of three- and four-year senior stars like Mia Juodaitis, Lexi Hemstock, Bri Floyd and Jade Barnes, who were freshmen contributors on Cheshire’s 2016 Class LL championship team and now lead a squad loaded with underclassmen. Twenty(!) of Cheshire’s 29 players are either sophomores or freshmen.

Drust also gives us her thoughts on this year’s SCC (and its scheduling), her coaching career with the Brakettes and, of course, her team’s #dingersfordanni fund raising in memory of former Foran softball star Danni Kemp, who was going to coach with the Rams before her untimely death from cancer in 2017 at age 19.
