Masuk’s Megan McFarland steals second base as the throw gets past Law shortstop Cali Jolley in the 2nd inning of the Class L Softball semifinals at West Haven High School in West Haven, Conn. on Tuesday, June 5, 2018.
WELCOME to the first, full season of ‘Inside the Circle,’ your weekly ear candy covering high school softball in Connecticut, brought to you by GameTimeCT’s softball beat writer Ryan Lacey and hosted by executive editor Sean Patrick Bowley, who’s taking over for Pete “Mr. Baseball” Paguaga this season.
With some of the big games getting moved around, for the season premiere Ryan breaks down some of the top teams in the GameTimeCT Top 10 softball poll and gives us his thoughts on what to expect as the young season matures.
Ryan hits on No. 1 Masuk and No. 3 St. Joseph, state champions last year who are the top contenders for the Class L title this year. St. Joseph has moved up to compete with Masuk after winning it all in Class M. Their opening day showdown, sadly, was postponed to April 20, as with others.
They also touch on Top 10 teams Trumbull, Southington, Cheshire, North Haven, Norwich Free Academy, Seymour, Amity and E.O. Smith, with quick hits on Law, North Branford, St. Paul, Stratford, Danbury, West Haven…
It’s a quick, starter episode, just to get the ball rolling. Expect a few guests and interviews beginning next week. Be sure to follow along!
