LITCHFIELD >> Housatonic’s Jonathan Miller proved his status as the Berkshire League’s best boys tennis player with his third straight Berkshire League singles championship Monday afternoon at Litchfield High School.
The Mountaineer senior, a BL All-Star for four years, defeated Litchfield’s Charlie Shanks in the league tournament finals for his latest title.
Nonnewaug’s Aneesh Mistry and David Gow won the doubles championship in a close finals match against Litchfield’s Alec Doty and Tristan Roveto.
Nonnewaug’s Dylan Kachur and Andrew Ray join Miller and Shanks as the other singles All-Stars.
Housatonic’s Max Vadakin and Mo Eserafy are the other doubles All-Stars.
NVL Tournament >> Andrew Dzinski, Holy Cross; Mike Roulanaitis, Woodland; Sagan Butwell, Watertown; and Matt Spina, Wolcott, the top four seeds in the single tournament, made it through strong efforts by Torrington’s Scott Dixon and Alain Malcolm to reach Wednesday’s semifinal and final rounds.
Jay Caggiano/Ryan Collins, Wolcott; Liam Palilla/Dan Huang, Holy Cross; Alex Hal/Jackson Yost, Wolcott; and Haydon Frisbie/Domenic Setaro, Holy Cross will play for the doubles title after opposition from Torrington’s Billy Weber/Ray Nader and Kevin Dixon/Will Elmendorf in Monday’s quarter finals.

Wolcott Tech 190, Terryville 196 >> Terryville’s Mike Hills took medalist honors with a 44 at Pequabuck Golf Course.
Carter Wheeler (45), John Gasper (46) and Jake Gasper (49) led the Wildcats to their 15th straight victory against no losses for the season.
Mike Gudeczauskas shot 47 for the Kangaroos (11-10).
Litchfield 168, Wamogo 196, Nonnewaug 200 >> Wamogo’s Sean Brady’s 37 led all golfers at par-35 Litchfield Country Club. Nathan Leigh (38), Donnie Protzmann (40), Chandler Boucher (44) and Tom Simoncelli (47) stayed low for the Cowboy win.
C.J. Schullery followed Brady with a 47.
Jey Herman (46) and Anthony Eanniello (48) led the Chiefs.

Gilbert 205, Shepaug 228, Housatonic 255 >> Gilbert’s Connor Bailey shot a 42 for medalist honors at Sharon Country Club, followed by Andrew Christiansen (48) for the Yellowjackets (7-8).
Eamon Crossley had 48 for Shepaug (2-14); Zach Ongly had 49 for Housatonic (3-13).
Baseball
Terryville 4, Shepaug 2 >> Derek Thibodeau (2-for-3, double, 3 RBI, run) led the Kangaroos to a 4-0 lead until Shepaug erupted for two in the top of the seventh at Terryville High School.
Housatonic 5, Litchfield 3 >> Mountaineer Jacob Sphur threw a four-hitter at Litchfield. Seth Sherwood broke open a 3-3 game in the sixth inning with a two-run single.
Ayden Zucco had two hits.
Nick Andro (2-run double) and Ryan O’Bernier (2 hits) led the Cowboys.
Nonnewaug 2, Wamogo 0 >> In a pitchers’ duel at Wamogo between Nonnewaug’s Alex Reimold (11 strikeouts) and Wamogo’s Garrett Coe (12 strikeouts), each team had just three hits.
Dominic Piscitelli Hit an RBI double and scored on a throwing error, accounting for both Nonnewaug runs in the fourth inning.
The win qualifies the Chiefs (8-12) for the state tournament in their final regular-season game.
Wamogo, 9-10, has one more game, at O’Brien Tech, this afternoon.
Gilbert 6, Lewis Mills 5 (9) >> The Yellowjackets scored in the bottom of the ninth for the win at Walker Field.
Chad Closson was 2-for-4 with 3 RBI; Austin Smith had the other 3 RBI.
Jared Czarnecki was 3-for-5, with 3 doubles and 2 RBI for the Spartans.
Mills is 7-12, needing to beat Thomaston at home today to qualify for states.
Gilbert is 10-8, with games left against Terryville today and Thomaston Wednesday.
Softball
Shepaug 14, Terryville 0 >> Olivia Moore allowed just six hits in a win at Washington’s Dick Ayer Field.
Spartan batting leaders were Annie Rosa (4 hits, 2 RBI), Aly Hofmann (3 hits, 5 RBI), Shannon Miller (3 runs, RBI) and Hannah Lasky and Paige Johnson, with two hits apiece.
Emmilena Russo and Ariana Katiewicz each had two hits for Terryville.
Shepaug is 9-10.
Haddam Killingworth 7, Northwestern 6 (11) >> In a marathon at Northwestern, Haddam-Killingworth (12-7) came through with a run in the top of the 11th for the win.
Ari Masotti was 3-for-5, leading the effort.
Michaela Cisowski (3-for-6, 2 double), Sydney Sanden (3-for-5) and Kate Matava (2 hits, 2 RBI) led the Highlanders (13-7).
Lewis Mills 17, Gilbert 9 >> The Spartans (10-10) came back from a 9-7 deficit with 7 runs in the bottom of the fifth and three more in the sixth. Mary Cormier had 9 strikeouts for Mills. Amanda Sullivan (2-for-2, double, 4 runs); Emma Kryzanski (2 runs); Julia Arel (3-for-5, double, 3 runs); and Julia Sheahan (2-for-3, run) were the big guns on offense.
Anna King (2-for-4, 2 runs); Liz Wexler (2-for-4, 2 runs); and Penelope Rein (triple, 3 RBI) led the Yellowjackets.
Boys Volleyball
Newington 3, Lewis Mills 2 (25-23, 25-21, 20-25, 14-25, 15-12) >> Kevin Bilbrault (21 digs); Andres Ithier-Vicenty (22 kills); and Blake Mamaclay (47 assists) led the Indians’ rally.
Ben Lewis (22 kills, 4 blocks, 18 digs); Anthony Licazta (11 kills, 20 digs); Kevin Kryzwick (8 kills); Austin Gilbert (23 digs); and Lorenz Gunzl (46 assists) were big for Mills.
Newington is 16-4; the Spartans are 11-4.
