In the Diamond Gems feature, we’ll take a look back at some of last week’s top performances and look ahead to the upcoming week.
HIT PARADE
• Lexi Falcigno, Branford: Hit for the cycle in a 20-5 win over Wilbur Cross. She finished with six hits and seven RBIs.
• Raven Houck, Wheeler: Hit the home run cycle (grand slam, three-run, two-run, solo) and finished with 10 RBIs in a 13-7 win over Windham.
• Sabrina LeMere, North Branford: Had two hits, two runs and three RBIs in a 5-3 win over Hale-Ray.
• Jordan Perzan, Lewis Mills: Hit three home runs, a triple and finished with six RBIs in a 15-4 win over Gilbert.
• Sarah Vickery, East Hampton: Had three hits and four RBIs in an 8-6 win over Portland.
ACES
• Abby Abramson, Cheshire: Allowed just three hits and struck out 10 in a 2-0 win over Amity.
• Ireland Miessau, Lauralton Hall: Did not allow a run in victories over Mercy, Sacred Heart and Hand.
• Caroline Taber, Fitch: Allowed three hits, struck out 11 and added an RBI double as the then No. 2 Falcons defeated then No. 1 Southington 2-0, ending the Blue Knights’ win streak at 77 games.
• Nicole Williams, St. Joseph: Pitched a perfect game and struck out 14 in a 13-0 win over McMahon.
TEAM EFFORT
• Bacon Academy: Defeated Windham to earn its first win of the season.
• Branford: Defeated Wilbur Cross to earn its first victory of the season.
• Fitch: Defeated Southington, LaSalle Academy and East Lyme to improve to 10-0. The victory over Southington snapped the Blue Knights’ 77-game winning streak, one shy of the state record for consecutive wins held by Seymour.
• Foran: Defeated Hillhouse, Law and Mercy to improve to 10-0.
• Maloney: Defeated New Britain, Newington and Middletown to improve to 8-1. The Spartans have won seven games in a row.
MILESTONES
• Raeanne Geffert, Seymour: Recorded her 100th career RBI in a 17-0 win over Kennedy.
• Haddam-Killingworth: Defeated Portland 12-1 to earn the program’s 600th victory.
• Wamogo: Defeated Thomaston 2-1 in eight innings, snapping the Bears’ 30-game winning streak in the Berkshire League dating back to 2014.
ON THE AIR/WEB
• Hamden at West Haven, Wednesday, 7 p.m.: ESPNradio1300.
• Cheshire at East Haven, Friday, 7 p.m.: ESPNradio1300.
WATCH THIS
• Fitch at Norwich Free Academy, Monday, 4 p.m.: Fitch plays its first game as the state’s No. 1 team against the 10-1 Wildcats.
• St. Joseph at Westhill, Monday, 4 p.m.: A contest between the top two teams in the FCIAC.
• Rocky Hill at Southington, Wednesday, 3:45 p.m.: Rocky Hill is the lone remaining unbeaten team in the CCC.
• Wilcox Tech at Capital Prep, Friday, 3:45 p.m.: Capital Prep is 9-1, while the visitors are 7-1. Wilcox Tech defeated the Trailblazers 16-4 on April 15.
• Cheshire at East Haven (Deer Run), Friday, 7 p.m.: The first of two meetings during the regular season between these SCC powers.
