Thursday’s Middletown region sports roundup

Baseball

Valley Regional 20, Westbrook 6 >> Senior pitcher Nash Eppard struck out 12 over five innings and Arik Sypher and Chase Morris each had two hits for the visiting Warriors (7-3) on Wednesday.

The Knights fell to 4-6.

Haddam-Killingworth 17, Hale-Ray 3 >> At Moodus, junior Jack DiMatteo struck out 10 and Trevor Mann had four hits to lift the Cougars.

Tyler Popp had three hits and five RBIs and Anthony Marino added three hits for H-K (10-2).

Conner Egan had two hits for the Noises (1-9).

Softball

East Hampton 8, Portland 6 >> Renee Radavich had three hits and three runs scored, Sarah Vickery had three hits and four RBIs, and freshman Alyssa Marchi had two hits, including a home run, to power the host Bellringers (4-6).

Rachel Duckworth keyed a six-run rally in the seventh with a two-run triple for the Highlanders (1-7).

Mercy 17, Hamden 0 >> Danielle Lajoie went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs and Tiffany Mangiameli went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs to lead the visiting Tigers on Wednesday.

Taylor Reardon also homered, while Sarah Flanagan scattered five hits for Mercy (6-4).

The Green Dragons fell to 1-9.

Westbrook 10, Valley Regional 4 >> At Deep River, Olivia Pohorylo and Alexa Mulvihill had three hits apiece, while winning pitcher Hannah Bibisi scattered seven hits for the Knights (6-5).

Alex Figuenick went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Kaleigh Caulfield added two hits for the host Warriors (1-4).

Frisbee

Fairfield Ludlowe 15, Xavier 11 >> At Fairfield, Albert Ackerson and Tyler Williams each had three points, while Zach Braun had five assists to lead the Falcons (7-2).

Gunnar Jackson, Tyler Beaulieu and Braun each had three blocked passes for Xavier, which trailed 8-6 at halftime. Xavier plays in the Middletown Invitational this Saturday at Woodrow Wilson Middle School.

Boys Golf

Vinal Tech 214, Capital Prep 231 >> Jeff Pollard shot a 49 to earn medalist honors for the Hawks (5-4, 3-2 CSC).

Portland 155, Valley Regional 226 >> At Portland Golf Course, medalist Nick Piersall shot a 37 to lead the Highlanders on Thursday. John Lucas (38), Jimmy Kelley (39), and Jon Twichell (41) also scored for Portland (6-1).

Jake Patterson shot a 48 for the Warriors (0-3).

Old Lyme 175, Coginchaug 186 >> At Black Hall Club, Graham Aird shot a 39 to earn medalist honors for the host Wildcats (4-0).

Saige Avery shot 41 and Tyler Woodward shot 45 for the Blue Devils (3-1).
